Optic Nerve Atrophy (ONA)

Optic nerve atrophy is a condition that occurs when the optic nerve deteriorates, resulting in vision loss.

Cause of ONA

According to the studies, ONA may be caused from conditions such as:

  • Brain injury or trauma
  • Inflammation
  • Degenerative disorders
  • Hemorrhage, Tumors
  • Vitamin deficiencies
  • Multiple sclerosis or
  • Genetic inheritance.

Diagnosis

An ophthalmologist can diagnose optic nerve atrophy by examining the optic disc, pupil reaction, eye movements, and color vision.

Common signs and symptoms of ONA
